Fact Sheet for Ft. Cavazos/Joint Base San Antonio

Quick facts and frequently asked questions regarding Family Adventure at LoneHollow Ranch for Ft. CAVAZOS and Joint Base San Antonio Service Members.

Who:​ Approximately 31 Active-Duty Service Members, assigned to Ft. Cavazos or Joint Base San Antonio, along with their families are cordially invited. Please note: Single-parent families and cases where one spouse is performing official military duties but the other spouse/children can attend, are invited to participate as well.

What:​ Military Family Adventure at Young Life's LoneHollow Ranch. Note: Young Life is a Christian organization, but being a person of faith is not a requirement to attend the adventure. There will be a nightly program with a short message and sing-a-long songs, as well as numerous recreational activities — for example: archery tag, zip line, and lake activities. There will be an itinerary for group activities every day of the adventure, but it is not mandatory to participate in all activities. Childcare is available on site during scheduled family activities.

When:​ August 2-7, 2024

Where:​ LoneHollow Ranch is located 186 miles southwest of Ft. Cavazos and 93 miles just northwest of Joint Base San Antonio.

Why: To allow Service Members and their families to get away from the stresses of everyday life, spend quality time together, laugh a lot and be restored.

How Much: Thanks to anonymous and generous donors, you pay only a small registration fee for your entire family for the week. This fee covers all meals, activities and lodging for the entire family for the week. The fee is based on rank; specifically: E1-E5 – $50; E6-E9 – $75; CW1-O3 – $100; O4 and above – $150.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply?

Apply Here.​ Applications will be accepted beginning February 1, 2024. Space is limited, so apply early!​ Notification of selection will occur no later than 30 days prior to the start date of camp. In order to accommodate as many families as possible, you will only be allowed to attend Military Family Adventure once.

If you are selected to attend, your registration fee (paid at the time of notification) will guarantee your slot. Do not send money with your application.

What about pets, alcohol, and smoking?

Unfortunately pets/alcohol are not​ allowed for this week. Smoking is allowed in designated areas only.

What should I bring?

The only things that families need to bring are their personal items (outdoor clothes, swim suits, sunglasses, sunscreen, hats, etc.), snacks if they want, and a willingness to relax and have fun. A complete packing list will be sent to you before your arrival.

What are the lodging accommodations like?

The accommodations are cabin like rooms with linens provided. The rooms have twin bunk beds and private bathrooms, and no TV or telephones.

Do I need to bring/plan for additional expenses beyond the registration commitment fee?

There are no additional charges above the registration commitment fee. LoneHollow Ranch does have a gift shop, snack bar and coffee shop in which you may want to make purchases. This is an individual choice.
